Augusta, KY
Overnight Cruise
Get away
from it all by taking a mini vacation to the quaint, historic town of
Augusta and arriving in style by boat! Check out the Augusta web site to
plan your stay http://www.augustaky.com/.
If you don't want to do an overnight, take a look at the Meldahl Dam page
for information about the day cruise to Augusta.
During
our journey, we will pass quaint river towns and villages, some of which have their own
place in history. For instance, the Village of New Richmond was an important
center for Underground Railroad activity. Another town, Point Pleasant, is
the birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States. Feel free to ask the Captain questions about these towns
and how they are a part of the Ohio River's rich history.

We
will also pass by the plant that operates the most powerful coal-fired
generating unit in the world and the first conversion from nuclear plant to
coal-fired generation plant.
One of
the highlights along the way is locking through
Captain Anthony
Meldahl Locks & Dam.
However, the wait to enter the lock
can be up to one hour or longer. It
depends on river traffic. The Captain has no control over when we are
allowed to enter the lock, so please don't blame the Captain if the wait is
a long one!
Once
we lock through, we will continue our journey up river until we reach our
destination in Augusta.
